ronepheric haemopoietic activities and corpuscular values in the circulating blood of channa puctatus (Bloch,1793) exposed to Metacid 50, an organophosphate pesticide

ABSTRACT:Haematological and pronephric haemopoietic responses of Channa punctatus due to exposure of sublethal concentration of an agricultural insecticide, Metacid 50 over a short-term period evoked significant changes in total erythrocytic count, haematocrit, heamoglobin, absolute corpuscular values as well as in haemopoietic efficiencies and erythropoiesis reflecting the condition of stress in fish. Among the leucocytes in blood, the initial response to stress was a decrease in small lymphocytes but increase in the leucocrit and total leucocytic count mainly due to neutrophils.
